I love it when people hire me to help them with personal branding. Its a rush producing images that establish what they stand for and who they are. Essentially, everything we do and say has an impact on how others ‘see’ us. A personal brand is a reflection of our character, skills, talents and passions in life and how they are perceived by those around us. The human brain is a visual instrument. Fist impressions truly matter! Using photography to reinforce your personal brand is an excellent way to take advantage of the visual nature of the human brain.
My studio was a buzz with energy and excitement for Stacey's shoot. There were clothing racks lined up with colorful Hawaiian shirts, comically small toy instrument props, blow up beach balls, reggae music playing, and a bunch of band mates goofing around. I had a personal branding photo shoot with the Stacey Peasley Band!
The Stacey Peasley Band is a popular children's music group that is based here in Natick where my studio is located. They perform throughout the greater Boston area and just last week they put on seven shows in six days! Their music, just like them, is upbeat, fun and a blast so we worked to produce images that conveyed this vibe.
We played around with fun props and and poses in the studio and then headed outside for a few shots in front of Natick's butterfly mural - a magical, colorful image that fits in perfectly with the Stacey Peasley Band's branding message.
I also recently did personal branding photos shoots with the artist Lisa Hayden, owner of Melted Theory Art. The same way brands obsess about logos, colors, and typography, a strong personal brand requires you to invest in professional headshots and appealing photography.
Lisa Hayden as an artist creates colorful paintings in an abstract expressionist style. She studied painting at the University of Miami, where the vibrant colors of the warm ocean, palm trees, and pastel houses have had a lasting influence on her art for over 25 years. We worked to convey this sense of style in her personal brand.
I love Lisa's water-themed paintings. I have one of her original ocean themed paintings hanging in my home. Isn't it beautiful? I love that while it is still abstract this painting really conveys all of the colors of the ocean. The wave and white swirls remind me of sea foam and I love that she included the beach-wood-esque element.
Marie-Laure, owner and cheesemaker at Couët Farm & Fromagerie, is another example of a personal branding shoot. Check out her new website featuring my photos! Marie-Laure wanted her personal brand to convey old-world heart meets new-world innovation. We worked together to show how her cheesemaking business has warmth, heart, and an age old history, yet is also scientific and obsessed with quality control. Marie and I connected about being older millennials balancing work we are passionate about and motherhood. Marie is a wonderful example of a woman determined to pursue her dreams and she's also a lovely person to spend time with. If you stop by her farm or see her at a Farmer's market you MUST try her cheese. Trust me, this cheese is the stuff of foodie dreams! Buy several, you will not want to share.
It’s something of a no-brainer, but there is a clear correlation between success and branding. And nothing speaks louder then powerful images. I'm looking forward to the next opportunity to help with personal branding through my photography. Just as I worked with the Stacey Peasley Band, Melted Theory Art, and Couët Farm & Fromagerie I'd like to work with you!
